Through the years

The moments that shaped us.

Life at Turner Brothers, inside the workshop and beyond its doors. Read through the years or choose a chapter to explore.

  1. Two brothers. One local garage.

Brothers Nigel and Richard Turner establish Turner Brothers (Huddersfield) Ltd, opening a garage to look after local motorists and their vehicles.

  2. Room to grow. A new home.

Turner Brothers moves to larger premises at Bottoms Mill, which remains home to the business today. As demand for vehicle recovery grows, the team begins working with the police and motoring organisations, including the AA and RAC.

  3. A busy recovery service. Three new apprentices.

With the recovery side of the business thriving, Nigel and Richard welcome three apprentices to the team. Among them is Adam Ogden, starting his career at Turner Brothers.

Turner Brothers expands into selling ATVs, quads and accessories, adding another branch to the business.

  5. Nigel and Richard pass on the business.

After nearly two decades, Nigel and Richard decide it is time to hang up their overalls. They sell the business to Turner Brothers (Holmfirth) Ltd, beginning a new chapter for the garage.

  7. A pink car. A tractor rally. A community effort.

In 2022, Eden’s Army brings the community together to support Eden Smith, a young girl from Holmfirth, and help her family fund specialist cancer treatment in the USA. From sponsored walks to a charity tractor rally, people across the Holme Valley and Huddersfield join the fundraising effort. Pink, Eden’s favourite colour, becomes a familiar sign of support.

Turner Brothers plays its part by preparing a bright pink Ford Focus for donation to Eden’s Army and helping make Eden’s tractor rally possible. The car is a shared effort, with Gavin Shaw of Shaws Autos Repairs providing the repaint and Dave Askew of CV Graphics Ltd designing and applying the graphics.

The team thanks everyone who helps bring the rally together, including its escorts, and celebrates the generosity of the local community.

  8. A fresh look for the garage.

The outside of the garage gets a makeover, giving the building a fresh new look. Investment in new courtesy cars adds to the improvements for customers visiting Turner Brothers.
